Our hearts are restless, until they find their rest in You, Lord.
So St Augustine began his great work of Self-examination, the Confessions.
It is the calling of the Church to show forth Jesus:
Just as Mary gave bodily life to Jesus in her womb, and brought him into a world full of longing, love, and pain, so the Church is called to give bodily form to Jesus, and to bring forth His healing, love, and forgiveness into this world of beauty, grace, and hurt.
St Teresa of Avila wrote this beautiful prayer on the same theme:
Christ Has No Body
Christ has no body now on earth but yours,
no hands but yours,
no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which to look out with
Christ's compassion on the world;
Yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good;
Yours are the hands with which he is to bless people now.
